I'm selling a house. I was contacted by a neighbor who is interested and I did a walk through with them. They now have a buyers agent who is expecting a commission. Since I was first contact are they still entitled to buyers agent commission ?

You can say no to commission.

The buyer can pay his own agent out of his pocket though he will probably offer you less to cover it.

You are probably going to be contacted by buyer agents anyway. They will attempt to negotiate the commission with you or charge a fee to their client.

Just be careful to thoroughly and carefully read and understand every word in any contract they offer you. There is a lot of fine print and legalese that can trip up a seller.

Did you sign a written contract?

If you did, you're bound by the contract.

Read THOROUGHLY the written contract.

Otherwise, if you didn't sign a contract, how can anyone LEGALLY receive one penny, much less hundreds of US DOLLARS?
