I took over a restaurant in early 2005. For two years I paid the rent and the CAM charges. In early 2007, I received a letter from the landlord indicating that an audit of my account revealed I had not been paying my portion of the property taxes and that I would have to start paying them. I talked to the property manager and she acknowledged that since it was their oversight I would not have to pay for anything before the audit was conducted. My lease terminated later in 2007 and I received a check from the landlord for the amount of the security deposit and last month's rent. Two days later, I received a letter indicating that they had made a mistake and were in fact reducing the amount of my refund to cover the unpaid property taxes that I did not pay for two years. They stop paid the first check and gave me a check for a lesser amount. Recently, I filed in Small Claims court to recover the difference of the two checks. Two days ago, I received a letter from the landlord indicating that yet another audit had revealed I did not pay for my portion of the insurance premiums and are now billing me $16,000! it is evident that they wrote that letter in retaliation for the suit I filed. what can I do????

Q: what can I do?

A: Pay your bill.
