CA Unlicensed Driver Ticket

I was issued two unlicensed driver citations while having a current out of state license from AZ. After contacting the AZ DMV and the issuing officers and sheriff multiple times, I was informed that I had to appear in court. (There was no court address, citation amount or citation code listed on the ticket). So I brought both citations into the only courthouse in town (was traveling through on the way to a job) and was told by a woman in a "ticket counter" the citation was a "felony". Please, there are two of these tickets and no matter how many times I tried to clear up this confusion with the issuing officers-I was told I must return to appear in court. The only guess the DMV could give me was that somehow both officers mistakenly read an old state ID instead of the driver license info. I have even written to the "Presiding Judge" of the court since I had no name, and received no response.

Contact the agency that issued the citation and they can tell you which court to go to if it is not listed on the citation... which it should be. You signed the promise to appear, so you should have been clear about the instructions.

This is not a felony offense. Without the violation listed on the citation I'm not sure why anyone would tell you that it was... and even so, if it was a felony you would have been arrested.

How long have you lived in AZ? How long had you been in CA at the time of the citation? Have you ever been licensed in CA? Were you able to produce your valid AZ license at the time you were stopped?

Question ... Do you live or work in CA? Was the car registered in CA in your name?

It could very well be that you were cited for CVC 12500(a) because you were required to have a CA license.

Oh, and there is no citation for a felony. That offense is technically a misdemeanor but most often filed as an infraction.
