My cable box and modem were returned to the cable company by a third-party individual (family friend). This individual made it clear that they were not me, the account-holder, before anything was said. This individual at no point stated they had my permission to receive any of my personal information, neither in writing nor orally. Regardless, the cable company provided the third-party individual with my account balance both orally and in writing. I have physical evidence that this information was provided in writing.

Were any privacy or communication laws violated here? I could not find anything that I understood in my own research. I did find a news article about a consumer suing this same cable company (dated this year) for violating a communications act by providing his account information to a third-party.

What is my legal recourse?

No. You may find information about people suing the cable company but I doubt you will find any who were successful under the same circumstances. Besides, having given the person the equipment to return on your behalf could be viewed as your consent.
