My boyfriend has had an incident today, when he went to one of his favorite game stores. An employee accused him of stealing money out of the employee's car. He told me that he had seen the car, but didn't even touch it. My boyfriend told the man that he had not stolen from his car, and he said if he wanted to make sure, then the employee was free to search his truck to make sure if he wanted to.
the man then pushed my boyfriend up against his truck and started threatening him. He said that the employer came out of the store and told the employee to stop. They called the police, and when a ploice man got there, the employer/employee's story was that my boyfriend had stolen out of the car, but all of the workers including the employer, told the police that that employee did not infact push my boyfriend up against his truck and threaten him, even though the employer was the one who came out and insisted that the man stop doing it. The police said that the workers are the witnesses, but they were all lieing. could he really be charged when there is no evidence besides the false statements of the workers. They couldn't say that he had even touched the car, because he didn't.
I'm just really worried that he's really going to have to pay for something didn't even do. I believed that they couldn't really charge you or arrest you if they didn't have any solid proof to back it up. But, can he really get charged because a few lieing people said that he did? and also, the man pushed my boyfriend up against his truck, isn't that assult, and can't that man get in trouble for that?
Thankyou, and I really hope that you can help me, because I really would like to know what to think and of what may happen.

The police officer did not arrest your boyfriend, so he didn't believe the story.
Will he be arrested later?
I doubt it.
Going forward, stop talking about this.
Tell your friend to stop talking about this.
Let it go.
If he is arrested, he should remain silent.
He should make no statement about this to anyone, until instructed to do so by his attorney.

One final note, he should NEVER return to that store.
He should find another place to shop, but not at that store.
You shouldn't go there, either!

Agreed - and something is not quite right here. How did some employee whom your boyfriend doesn't know come to suspect that your boyfriend stole money out of his car? This type of an accusation doesn't just happen out of thin air.

Professor, I'll bet you wouldn't accept some of these case briefings!!!! :D

I know you wouldn't accept the legal conclusions given. :)

if the stolen property was not found, then there is nothing to worry about. false statements or not, your boyfriend can still make the report of battery against the employee.
It sounds like a dead issue... both sides need to let it go.
