Can I buy a new car while separation filed but not yet served?

Hello, my wife has filed for legal separation and divorce but I have not yet been served. We have been living apart for six months, and she put Jul 8 as the date of informal separation in the document. Now I need a new car, If I buy one will it be considered separate or community property? Do I have to inform her about it? Thanks for any help!

You might want to wait until everything is finalized to buy a new car to be sure the car would be yours only.
