I have a some what complicated situation. I have been renting a house from a relative of mines for a number of years. He will write me a letter stating the price of the rent he will charge and the conditions and we both will sign it. He wrote me a signed letter on March 27, 2007 stating that the price of rent would go up so I agreed to pay it. However a week later he told me that his daughter wanted to rent the house and that I would have to move. My question is since he put it in writing were he discussed what I should pay the following year, could I take him to court and fight the eviction? Do I have any legal grounds?

What state is this in?

And do you still have a copy of the letter with the intent?

This is not an eviction, per se, it sounds as if it is simply a denial of any continued lease. Depending on the laws in your state, you may have no grounds to stand on unless you want to take him to court for violation of a signed contract.

How much is this worth to you?
