Can I get an annulment or do I need a divorce?

I got married in New York 10 or 11 years ago to my ex boyfriend. I was young and in love and we did it in secrecy since my family would not approve. I was sure I wanted to marry him once I finished school. We did to help him stay in the country(legal issues). He got a work permit(which expired long ago) but never went through with getting papers for a greencard. We have broken up 5 years ago and never lived together and our marriage was never socially recognized(only a few of his family members knew about it). Is it possible to get an annulment?

I don't think so. Your marriage does not fit any of the grounds for annulment. If you had been under 18 when you got married, you could have gotten an annulment up until the age of 18.
