I'm actually asking these on behalf of a friend of mine who is accused of slashing all 4 tires on his ex-girlfriends car. The police have a 5 day period in which the tires may have been slashed and she told them that he was the most likely person to have done it. There are no witnesses or physical evidence yet he is still being tried for doing it. I believe he said it was a class 1 misdemeaner.
The problem is that he lives in another state and won't have anywhere in VA to stay much longer. Is he allowed to leave the state or does he have to stay? Also, with such a lack of evidence is there really any chance of a conviction? Also, just the roundtrip travel and expenses of staying in the area for a few days for the trial would probably be more expensive than any fines he may have to pay if convicted. Any advice?
Thanks
