Ok so earlier in the year my fiance at the time and I moved to TX. That was short lived and we both returned to TN. I left a bunch of my stuff in the storage unit down there. Since then she has returned back to TX to live. I have tried to get my stuff back but she says the property is in TX and it's a civil matter and if I want my items back i can take her to court in TX. Her stepdad is a cop.

So since all the items were purchased in TN, can I sue her in TN for the monetary value of the items as to the cost to replace the items?

What do you think the monetary value is? If it's a small claims matter, you'll likely have to sue in Texas where your ex is.

What's she doing with the stuff in Texas? If it's just sitting in storage, she's probably under no obligation to get it and return it to you. If she's taken your things and is using them, you can also let her know that this may not be exclusively a civil matter, and she should ask her dad about the criminal law of theft.

Theft charges might give you some leverage. Otherwise, assuming small claims, you'll need to sue in Texas for the return of your possessions. In the event you're successful, you'll need to collect the stuff - she's probably not going to be liable for shipping it back to you.
