I'm actually trying to find out if I have a right to sue a friend. A supposed friend of mine needed me to sign as a guarantor on her lease at an apartment complex, so I did. Evidently, she did not pay her rent and therefore the apartment complex is calling me telling me that they're going to send it to collections if it does not get paid. My question is do I have the right to sue her and what is the correct way to go about doing it?

Yes. A guarantor always has the right to sue the debtor who defaults.

The right way to do it depends on the rules of civil procedure in your jurisdiction and the amount you were dinged for. Sue in small claims if it's within the limit. State the facts: you co-signed, the friend defaulted, you paid. Provide a copy of the loan agreement. It's pretty straightforward.
