My home was broken into about 3 years ago and I was home at the time.I was tied up while they search my place. When I was able to call the cops I did. They came and treated me like a criminal. I was arrested and held at the Precint for about 8 hour before I was let go. That day may 12 2010 at12:24pm will always bother me. Is there any way I can sue the cops. I had to drop out of chef school because it was always on my mind.

Even if you had any kind of legal claim, which seems doubtful, after three years I suspect the window of opportunity has closed.

Per my reference in NY the SOL on suing the police is 3 years (different in different states). So, even if you had a case, it seems the SOL has expired. You should have contacted a lawyer as soon as it happened.

If you're troubled by those horrific events, and who wouldn't be, speak to someone. What you describe s very traumatic, maybe even PTSD.

Talk to an Imam, a minister, a rabbi, a priest, a psychologist, a physician, a counselor; get the help you need to learn how to cope with that bad day. You start with a chat, and then work on getting back into culinary school.

I have a friend. He's a very renowned chef. He and I have spoken about many things. Being a chef is artistic, a great makes the chef and the diner happy. Don't let one event deprive you of happiness. My friend says there's nothing like banging out a heavy service to help a person cope. See someone and start your healing. The best revenge is to succeed.
