Hello, I want to leave my boyfriend because I feel he is emotionally abusive. We have been together for 13 years and have a 10 year old. He will say extremely hurtful and degrading things like I'm lucky that he puts up with me because if he leaves other guys will just f*** me and leave me. This in front of our daughter. He is always making comments behind my back to our child like your mom is fat, your mom is ugly and smells. He also calls my father, brother, and I monkeys and gorillas because my dad has black skin but will never refer to any of my white family members in that way. This may sound insignificant but I think that by making such comments he is teaching her to disrespect and look down on me. He will stop talking to me for no apparent reason and then just like that will be all loving again. he has even spit in my face. There is so much more I could say but....

I want to leave because I can't take it anymore and because I don't want our daughter thinking this is normal behavior. We have never been married and his name is on the birth certificate. I'm a full time student and will move in with my parents. I have never been in trouble with the law or do any drugs. For the most part I am the primary caretaker except he watches her when I'm in school and sometimes he picks/drops her off at school. It's not that I don't want him to see her, I just want to know if I leave if I can take her with me and what my chances of custody are.
