Can my landlord charge me backrent?

My rent subsidy ended two months earlier than I remembered it would. The first month I paid full rent, my landlord noticed his mistake. He has charged me back rent. Do I have any legal recourse to have the back rent put aside based on the fact that he accepted my rent each of those months as paid in full.?

If you have receipts marked "paid in full", that might help you make your case.
If the receipts simply say "paid", that might not be as helpful.
You might also wish to reread yoru lease, if you have one.

You owed the rent. You say you forgot. He shouldn't be out the money because you forgot.
