Can my landlord charge me to tow away a car that does not belong to me?

My situation is this. My ex-wife moved out a couple of years ago. She left behind her parents car. Her parents are deceased, and the car does not run. I'm sure that the car is still in my ex-wife's parents name.

My landlord wants the car removed from the parking lot. I have informed my ex-wife of this and she continues to ignore the situation. The landlord is threatening to have the car towed away and charge "the owner", I'm sure they mean me, for the towing.

Could I be held responsible for the towing charges, since I have no legal interest in this car?

Thanking you in advance.

Methinks that since you gave your ex-wife permission to park her car there at some point, you are now responsible.

Yes; you certainly can be held responsible for these towing charges should the landlord choose to do this.

Best if you get it towed and then turn around and sue the ex-wife for these charges.

Even better- talk to the management tell them you need 10days to get it out (hopefully they are ok w/ that) send the ex wife a certified letter to get it outta there-- in 10 days call a junk yard to come get it.

If that is not ok w. the management I would have it removed yourself-- the towing charges you will be responsible for are outrageous-- you can call a tow man yourself for a lot cheaper then what the complex will charge you.-- A matter a fact if you can get it out of your complex on to a public street, it will be impounded-- You need to have your ex step up here.
