Can one sublet their own room without roommate consent?

Say two people are on a lease, and one wishes to move out due to incompatibilities and disagreements. Can they sublet their room without the other roommate's consent (assuming that subletting is allowed by the landlord to begin with)?

My understanding is that there is a reasonable right to sublet although you should first take a look at your lease. Do you have an agreement between roommates or is it just between you and the landlord? I have created roommate agreements in the past just to deal with situations like this and issues of how a shared apartment should be kept, e.g. religious requirements such as Sabbath observance or keeping Kosher in the apartment, guests that may be allowed to sleep over, etc.
