i tryed to get divorced 4 years ago. before that i was separted from my kids father a year before i put the divorce papers. ok i went to a attorneys office and i payed in cash $400 in my divorce. i dont know what happen im still not divorced. the secretary took my money but never divorced me she keep on giving me excuses.. how can i get my money back i've waited too long. i dont have the receipt soo what can i do??? please help me!!

First of all she cannot divorce you and neither can your attorney. Only a court can and you need to find out whether papers were even filed. What do you know about this attorney, have you loo0ked him up on the state bar? Your post is so vague and it really does not make much sense. You do not get divorced just by paying someone money. You need to fill out the paperwork, he needs to be served, and you both need to go to court to iron out issues, then you sign off on the paperwork and your divorce eventually gets finalized. I can tell you it is probably going to be a lot more than $400 to get an attorney involved. Send this attorney a certified letter that you want your money back or you will file a complaint with the state bar but it is really uncleaer what is going o here. I find it hard to believe a reputable attorney will take yuor money and do absolutely nothing. Go to your state BAR's website and start there.

i did fill out paper work and everything so did my still husband. i know the secretary is not the person who divorces me but she is in charge in doing the paper work and getting us an appointment. and in puerto rico they doo charge you $400 in a divorce. thanks!!

This sounds like an uncontested divorce, which can be done for $400. However this attorney sounds like they need a push. I can't believe you waited 4 years. With patience like that I'm amazed you need a divorce. Like Duraine said, file a complaint with the Bar association. http://www.prba.net/ that is the link. I would inform the lawyer that you intend to do this and they will probably get on the stick. They don't sound reputable.

The Secretary/paralegal is not responsible for this, the attorney is.
