a few years ago i used to work for a fast food restaurant, where i met my current roommate (we'll falsely call him john). As an ex manager there i know how inconsistent their cash accuracy really is. On numerous accounts i have witnessed my GM of the store be short on her till and have no explanation why, and such incidents have also happened to me. I am no longer with the company because i chose to move on to bigger and better things once i truly saw how unorganized this company really was. John however decided to stay with them and was promoted to manager status about 2 years ago. During such time he has had no defining issues with cash shortages and has not been targeted for any fraud, until now.
The GM he was previously underneath was transferred to another location approx. 3 months ago and a new, inexperienced, General Manager took over. A fellow supervisor of John who definitely does not like him immediately began making false accusations about John to the new GM and gave him a bad rep. So from the start the new GM has had a poor outlook on John and when money began missing not only from the tills but from the safe as well (which can only be accessed by other managers) immediate accusations began falling on my roommate.
Now my question is this... As a previous manager i Know that you can NOT make ANY accusations about theft without proof, And such accusations can penalize the employer if taken to the Labour Board. My roommate heard rumors that the new GM believed he was stealing money from the safe to purchase smokes and refreshments from the store across the street ( a previous case with a manager who no longer works there) so John confronted the GM in a respectful manner to clear up any misunderstandings he may have with the situation. When the gm was asked if he believes John was stealing, he replied "Well, it appears so". The gm then went on to immaturely describe incidents of shortages (some of which being performed while John was not even at the store) as reasons for his beliefs.
I trust that my roommate has not stolen a cent from the store, and aside from that; the company has Absolutely NO PROOF of it being him. Can we turn this around on the company and make a case against them stating that the GM openly accused John without Any evidence or proof?
