Hello

My mother has been helping out an older lady for the past 2 years or longer and this lady writes her a check for 50 bucks sometimes for helping her out. today this lady's son called my mother and told her that he wanted her to pay all the money back that she had been given. My mom is freaking out trying to come up with the money because he wants it tomorrow all in cash $500. he is telling her that she took advantage of his mother, his mother doesn't agree, but he has control of her finances. Can this man sue my mother for the money his mother has given her?

Yes, he can sue anyone, even your mom.

He won't prevail, however, because he has no standing to sue on behalf of his mother.

Bottom line, tell your moms to ignore this bum.

In the future if your mom wishes to "help" the woman, it might be best NOT to accept anymore funds from her.

I mean, most people don't charge to "help" others, do they?

No good deed goes unpunished.

My suggestion is for your Mom to tell sonny to pound sand and then, sadly, tell the lady that she can't help her any more because of her idiot son hassling her. Let sonny take care of his own mother.

Even if the son has power of attorney over her financial affairs it is highly unlikely that this matter would even be taken to court. The amount of money is so small and the difficulty improving wrongdoing or another exceptional circumstance (such as incapacity) would be either extremely difficult or not available. I can't say whether the amounts of money that has been paid to your mother were excessive but the chance for success is very small even if that were to be the case.
