can't get back my security deposit

i am moving out of an apartment that two of my friends and i leased for a year. Myself, and one of my other roommates are moving while the third one is renewing the lease with a new person. The apartment leasing office told me that they will not refund my individual portion of the security deposit because they consider the deposit to stay with the apt. and not the people. They told me that it is up to me to work out an arrangement with my "third" roommate or the new tenant to get my monney back. My third roommate has refused to do this and now i am stuck. Who hould i sue and is it possible for me to get my money back and how soon? Ad even if i go to court and win will i have to wait until the "third" roommate moves out and collects the deposit before i can get my money ?

The roommate that is staying should pay you back for your security deposit since she is staying there and you and the other roommate are not. She cannot hold your deposit simply because you are no longer living there. If she If she is not cooperating with you then take her to small claims court and sue her for your share of the security deposit. Good luck to you!
