The car dealer I bought my from just called me on Friday and asked me to bring them a post dated check that way they could give it to the finance company so my payment would not have to come out of their cash on hand fund interesting thing is that my payment is not due until the 6th of April

Never ever ever write post dated checks, and if you are foolish and do anyway you had better have the money in the account to cover it.
Perhaps you can arrange for an electronic transaction on the given date.

It is generally never a good idea to write a post dated check & in your case your payment isn't due until 4-6. However; if you do, as mightymoose noted be sure you have money in your acct. to cover it.

You might want to discuss this with your state's AG, or whatever agency in Michigan regulates used or new car dealers. They've tipped their hand to you, my friend. The right people know what such a request means.
