My boyfriend and I of 4 years began purchasing two vehicles, the 02 car is soloely in his name but i can prove I have made 1/3 of the payments, and he said he would purchase me a truck so in 02/07 we financed a 03 Dodge. I could not get the vehicle solely in my name, because I was not working so the vehicle is registered, his name first and my name 2nd. Up until 1 week ago, i was the only driver of this vehicle, I put the downpayment on it and helped with payments when needed even though the agreement was he was purchasing for me. If we broke up he was supposed to keep the car and I would keep the truck and take over payments. well of course we broke up and he took both vehicles. The car is in repo status but the truck is up to date. He won't even try to re-fi. I just want my name off of the truck because with my limited income and that loan on my credit report, I can't go and get another vehicle. i have tried to be civil but he told me to take him to court. He left me with 3 kids (not his) and no transportation, One of my kids has a disability and I can't take her to appointments, and had to pull them from there after school Deaf services group, and I almost lost my job. Is there anything, I can do.

I'm really sorry to hear about your problem but can't provide you with any better news except that perhaps it's better that you're rid of him. The only entity that can take you off the vehicle loans is the company that loaned you the money. You are jointly liable. That is not likely to happen. You are probably one of numerous people to make this unfortunate mistake. You may want to put a lien on the truck and sue him in small claims court for the car - perhaps even for both vehicles. I don't know how large these purchases were but, if under $14,000, chances are you can sue him for each vehicle for up to $7,000 or so based upon your agreement and the amount paid for the car. That still doesn't help you much since it seems he is insolvent but at least you are doing what you can do. I wish you the best of luck during these difficult times.
