My sister and her husband have been married 6 years. He was in the Navy and deployed the last year and a half. In May 2009 I got a car loan in her name, due to a lawsuit I am currently in, I couldnt get another car loan. I put $3500.00 down and tagged, titled , and licensed the car. I have also bought extras for the car. My sisters husband came home from the Navy and they are currently seperated and have filed for divorce. Sad to say its getting ugly. He stated that the vehicle I am paying for and driving is half his sinse its in my sisters name. Is this true and what precautions can I take to protect myself and the money I have already put into this vehicle?

Thank you

If the husband wants to assume half-ownership, then he also assumes half of the outstanding debt tied to the car. Since you just bought the car last month, I assume the balance of the loan is still substantial. Does he realize that the loan will be probably be considered a marital debt if he insists that the car is a marital asset? Your sister should inform her lawyer.
