Car Purchase Errors

I purchased a 2006 truck from a used dealer (dealer A) and have had it for about 40 days now. I decided a few weeks ago to try and trade it in because I need something with better gas mileage. While trying to work a deal with another dealer (dealer B), they showed me an error on the contract for my truck. The contract shows the current mileage as 13,800 when its actually around 86000. Dealer B told me I have every right to take the truck back to Dealer A because of their error and the deal should be nullified. When I contacted dealer A, they told me they discovered the error and sent in correction paperwork to the dmv. Furthermore, Dealer B printer a carfax report for me and showed me this truck had been in 2 prior accidents.

My question is do I have a legal right to return the truck and have the deal voided?

Are you trying to tell me that you believed you were buying a 10 year old truck with only 13,800 miles on it? Hogwash. The minute you got behind the wheel and turned on the ignition the odometer showed you the correct mileage and did so every time thereafter. No, the error does not entitle you to return the truck for a refund. Dealer B is BSing you.

As for the carfax, you could have and should have gotten one before buying the truck. The information was out there for you to find.

Next time you buy a vehicle get the carfax or similar report before you sign anything or hand over any money.

By the way, had you actually read your contract on the truck before signing the contract you would have seen the mileage discrepancy, it would have been corrected and you still would have gotten the truck.

Next time you buy a vehicle make sure you carefully read the contract before signing it.

I also suggest you google something like "How to buy a used car."

No that's not what I'm telling you. I was unaware of the mileage error on the paperwork until Dealer B showed me. I knew it had 86000 miles on it just didn't know about the paperwork error.

You might want to contact the DMV and see if a correction was ever sent by the seller.

If he lied, the DMV can probably direct you as to your next steps.

What does the federally mandated odometer disclosure firm you received read?
