I sold my car on Ebay to a private party. The other party took possession of the car soon after the sale. I gave the other party a completed bill of sale and notified the DMV of transfer of ownership. I cashed their check but have not paid off the car loan yet. They have not received the title for the car. Now a detective is attempting to contact me to ask questions about the sale. The detective is harassing my family at their places of business and other employees that work for them. He says he realizes this is a civil matter but want to talk to me before it becomes a criminal matter. My question is can this become a criminal matter or would it remain a civil matter?

This is not legal Advice!

Hey,

The answer to your question is "pay the loan off" then this situation should go away.
If I had bought a car off of you and payed my money then I would expect you to have payed your end, to me that seems quite fair.

If you do not pay the loan "your client" in my eyes you would have been decived of his money and thats fraud. Unless you stated in your advert to see the vehicle that it would be sold with you still owing money on it.

Good luck.

Mark.
