I called a carpet cleaner to clean my carpets before I moved out of my apt. The guy I spoke with stated he would subcontract out and someone would be calling me for the etails and come clean my carpets. The guy came and cleaned them, yes, however the carpets were damaged byt the carpet cleaner. I called the original gyu I spoke with and explained my situation, he stated he would look into the problem and get back with me. After 2 months I had yet heard from him. I called to re address the issue and swas brushed off and told I needed to speak directly with the guy that came out to clean my carpets. I pulled my phone records and called the guy. He wouldnt even hear me out. He directly told me that i had the wrong number and hung up on me several times. The onyl proof I have is the phoen records and a hand written reciept (which he at first denied me) with the name of the original guy i spoke with at the top and I hand wrote in the name on the side of the van at the top of the page.

I cannot afford to pay for the replacement of the carpets and feel the carpet company needs to take responsibility for this. With what little evidence amd I able to make a claim?

You can make a claim on your word alone. Go file a small claims court suit against the cleaner AND the man that put you together with him. Get them both in court. They will admit they did it and you can get paid for the damages.
