I was caught stealing from a grocery in MN.The merchandise was about $15. It was my first offense, and needless to say I feel beyond disappointed with myself for doing something as inconsiderate and pointless as shoplifting. That being said, I understand that there will be repercussion and am incredibly anxious as to what that might be.

LP took me into the back and made me sign some papers, took my information, and my picture, and explained that I would be receiving a Civil Demand to pay the fine, and then went on about it being on my record and not being able to find a job. In the end he did not call the police. I received the Civil Demand asking for $50, and have not yet received any sort of notification of criminal action. I did not share my current employment information with him, as I am employed by a retail store in the area and was worried he would immediately notify them.

So I have a couple of questions.

1. Will is be likely that since the police were never called that I will be tried criminally?

2 I have heard about Retail Theft Databases, and was wondering that aside from potential employers being able to look at it and find out if a potential employee has been caught, would it be likely that my current employers would look on it and find out now after being employed there for 3 years?

The likihood they will file criminal complaint is low. This is normally done at time of stop

Possible yes. If the store that stopped you is a subscriber to said database and so is your employer there is that risk
