The other week, I mozied on into a Walmart here in Arizona. I'm just over 20 and I was on my way to school, but was hungry, had no money and I decided to grab a container of edibles from the place; it was equal to about $10. Some asset protection personnel guy approached me as I left the store, I asked to see some ID, he presented it, and I made no fuss and I was taken to the back room in the store. They took a picture of me, picture of the stolen item, I signed a form that said I agreed to be 86'd from all Walmart stores, and if I were to re-visit, I'd be charged with trespassing. I have no previous record of any kind. They got a hold of a cop and the officer came, said I was arrested, he read me my rights, didn't cuff me, he jot down all my information and ticketed me with a form that says I got a criminal offense for shoplifting. I was escorted out and I went to continue the rest of my day. I have a court date tomorrow and I don't know squat.
I'm worried. What the hell goes on? I have a lot on my plate.
Spare the sympathy, I need answers.
Am I going to jail? If so, how long? What's bail?
Do I have to pay a fine? What's the fine amount for things stolen under $20?
What's the court precession like? Do I have to make multiple appearances?
How do I approach the judge?
What's the deal with attorneys? Do I have to have one? If I have one, what does he/she do?
Can this be wavered?
Thanks in advance for the helpful tips. I look forward to some soon.
