Ok for starters I'm 20 years old and on july 9th 2009 i was making my way to Pittsburgh PA from North Carolina. On the way my friends had the bright idea to stop at walmart in Clarksburg West Virginia and get a five finger discount on some stuff we needed. I'm not going to lie I did steal and I was caught in the act, I don't need a lecture on how idiotic this was. The retail price on the item I attempted to steal was 11.99, but I was charged for the damages and so forth and it ended up culminating to $240.00. This was my first shoplifting fine. I asked the police if it would go on my record and so forth and they said that it wouldn't as long as I didn't apply for any sort of federal job, but all of this is aside from the point. I didn't have to go to court but I did talk to the Judge over the phone and I was ordered to pay the fine by August the 13th and it is now September 16th and I still haven't paid the fine. I'm in a bit of a bind for several reasons: 1) I work every sunday-wednesday doing 12 hour shifts from 7am-7pm, 2) I was told to get this settled that I would have to talk to the judge and he is only available from 8am-9am Monday-Friday, 3) I don't have a phone in order to get in touch with the Judge and I can't borrow any of my friend's phones because they are either in class or working in the morning. The only reason I was able to use a phone when this first happened is because it occurred during the summer when my friends were on summer break; and pay phones are hardly dependable, 4)I've also been sort of avoiding it out of fear of being arrested because I haven't had the money. I hate to make excuses but I recently moved out on my own and I'm not going to lie, getting adjusted to an independent lifestyle is hard. I've over-drafted a few times, my car keeps messing up and everything is just a mess. I talked to a friend who said he had charges against him in other states and he said that they wouldn't extradite me over $12 worth of goods, of course I'd rather take care of it than have that fine constantly looming over me. I basically just need answers, I need to know since I'm a month late and haven't had any contact with the judges where would I stand as far as all of this goes. Whether or not my fines are going to have tacked on interest/whether there's a warrant for my arrest and anything else you can tell me. Please help:(

If you were required to contact the court and did not its very possible there is a warrant out for your arrest. You should deal with this right away. I doubt the lack of access to phone will wash with Judge it really doesnt with me. Your answer is simple contact the court ASAP! the longer you wait the worst this gets

This is a lame excuse. If you wanted to use a phone you could have found one, you were either too lazy or scared.

Either way now its back to bite you in the ass. You most likely have a warrant, and all that has to happen is for a Police to run your plate number or your name and you get a 1 way trip to jail.

Call the court now and clear things up, unless you like looking over your shoulder.

Aside from all of this, I intend on calling asap. My question is this, what all does having a warrant out for my arrest entail? I mean this as in, will my fine be doubled? Am I going to have to go through any sort of long judicial process aside from just paying off my debt? The police told me whenever this happened that it wouldn't go on my record, so would me paying it off late change that?

Lets try to keep your post clean. I have edited the offensive wording. If you have an issue with a reply hit the report button or contact me directly please!

The fines and punshiments depend on the charge(s) You can expect the warrant to bring its own fines possibly. Having a warrant can prove very troublesome. The Police can pick you up at anytime! This means home, work, school any contact you might have with Law Enforcement etc. You need to talk to an Attorney to arrange how you will deal with this.

One nasty thing about warrants is that they can come back on you when you least expect them to. They can result in an arrest at home or work, they can result in lost jobs, they can result in being turned down for loans and benefits, all sorts of things.

There is no good excuse. Get it resolved, or you will one day be called to account when you least expect it.
