I was recently caught shoplifiting a $10 dollar item. I wasn't arrested or brought to the police station, but the LP manager took a picture of me & stored it into the stores data base & I was also banned from the store. The LP manager also told me that the store wasn't pressing charges but he said the DA would decide what will happen to me. I'm 20 y.o & this is my first offence & I have a clean spotless record. Since the store didn't press charges, is it still possible that the DA could file charges against me? If so will is it considered petty theft, a misdemeanor or an infraction? Will I have a criminal record? When I apply for a job & the question have you ever been convicted of a crime either a misdemeanor or a felony" do I check yes or no? & Will it show up on a background check? I was NEVER fingerprinted & the LP manager said I would be recieving a letter or something of that sort within 4-6 weeks stating a fine between 50$-$500. If the store didn't file charges against me, I didn't get arrested or brought to the police station, how do I get a fine?

If the store didnt press charges it isnt likely the DA will pick it up. I cannot be certain of course but its not likely. Pay your Civil Demand fee you get in mail and this hopefully will be over

we have same situation here bro, i stole a $10 item and i got caught. like how much would the civil demand fee costs for a $10 item? will we get like criminal records or something on our records? are we going to court for a stolen $10 item?

Scary: If you have a question concerning your own situation its best you create your own topic. Mixing your question with another's is likely to confuse many and neither of you may get the answers you desire
