Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Caught shoplifting......in CA

I was caught shoplifting items at Store name( I dont even remember how much they were worth)...Maybe about $100... They did not tell me the total value of the items and told me that they would be an additional charge maybe 3-4 time the value of the items ... They took my SSN, name , address, my pic and telephone number. They did not call the police. I told them I would pay for the items but they said no and that a Civil Demand would be sent to me. I am very ashamed and upset. They made me sign a document that said that I can no longer enter a Store name again...( I dont have a copy of this document) or I will be charge for trespassing.

I am waiting for the actual notice to arrive and fully intend to pay the enitre amount. I dont yet know how much they will ask me for. My green card is presently in the process and I am on a work visa.
Can they take me to court even after I pay the Civil Demand Notice?
Will this information appear in a backgroup check done by employers? If so how can I take it off?
Will this affect my credit score?
Where will this kind of information appear?
Will the processing of my Green Card be affected?
Do I need to hire a lawyer?

On a criminal background check? No If store belongs to a retail theft database then yes

When do you think I need to speak with a lawyer? Is it best I make an appointment with a lawyer when I get the civil demand and get his advise before paying the amount?

What kind of background check would this appear on?

Would there be a reason they take me to court even after I make the payment?
 
I am not very familiar with the kind of backgroud checks done in the US. Are there any other types other than criminal that are done?

I was also told that the amount on the civil demand notice is a major factor on whether they prosecute you. Is it true?
 
You were told wrong. I alaready told you that unless criminal charges are filed you will not appear in any criminal background check
