I was caught shoplifting a $325 pair of sunglasses at a high end department store in a Las Vegas, NV mall.

They detained me and I gave them all of my information. The manager of this store did not contact the police and I was told by LP that they would not press charges, I would only be getting a Civil Demand via mail. The security guard said it was my lucky day because they were closing in 15 minutes and did not want to deal with the long paperwork process. They took my picture, had me sign a form, and banned me from the store and the mall. They said if I paid the demand and never returned, they would not press charges.

I do not have a copy of anything saying that there will be no criminal charges, only their word and the fact that the police were not called. What is the likelihood of the police being contacted afterwards? Does anyone know of any cases where there was a change of heart?

Also, the people at the store recognized me because I have shopped and made purchases there before. On one purchase, I also shoplifted but was not caught. Will they reference my purchases and review video? If they find something can I be charged for that? What is the likelihood of this happening?

I searched online and couldn't find an answer. Thank you!

The store gains nothing by filing charges so its not liley they will if you pay the civil demand. I answered your concern about old video footage in your other question

Have you heard of any cases where no police were involved immediately, but a police report was filed on a later date? Thank you!

Yes it happens but its very rare and usually is result of some action taken by the accused
