I was caught taking donuts and food from work... I work in a grocery store and got caught taking food from the case... I feel really bad and I feel terrible I should have thought of my actions more as I'm a single mom with newborn twins and very young... Loss prevention confronted me and I signed a statement agreeing to pay 200$ and pay the time the loss preventing guy spent on my case, they also said I was suspended for a week and would go back to see what corporate decided on my punishment. I'm freaking out cause I don't know what to expect... I admit I did wrong and am willing to do what I Have to do to make this right but can anyone help me with what to expect. I know I'm fired and my fine
to the store , but what else can come
of this?

I have worked retail theft for many years now and can say that unless they uncover additional theft the likihood they will prosecute is low. You should not have signed any admission though as this can be used against you if they do choose to do so. Make no more admissions and pay the civil demand they request so not to provoke further action. by the way in some states the retailer cannot seek civil demand and prosecute both. If you your state is one of those then paying the fine is even more important as long as you pay civil demand they cannot file criminal complaint

The state is California. I don't know if you can pay a civil demand & also be prosecuted but someone else (maybe someone from Ca.) might come along & know.

I researched this with my partner and in CA a retailer may do both. However again its unlikely they will long as OP pays civil demand
