I gave my son the last name of the person I assumed to be his father. After a paternity test, we found that he is not his father. What can I do to change his name to my last name? Is there any thing I can do to waive the high court fees? How long does it take to be final?

There are no special exemptions or provisions for changing a baby's name over an adult name change.

You can hire a lawyer to assist, and increase your costs, but making the process easier for you.

Or, you can forget it and move on.

It's your choice, or the child's choice when he/she becomes an adult.

The name doesn't matter to the child. Children just wanna be loved, nurtured, and feel safe. If I had your choice to make, I'd save the money on the name change and use for the kid's education in 15-16 odd years.

In the meantime, just be a great mom and raise a great kid!!!
