Check arrived in deceased mothers name

Hello I am the executor of my deceased mothers living trust (died 2 years ago) and I just received a $6,000 state check (Illonois) made out to my mother. My local bank branch is unsure of the procedure. This is the same bank where my mother and I shared a checking account when she was alive.

What are my options?

If there is still an account open in your mother's name, and if the bank can't give you a reason why it shouldn't be deposited into her account, deposit it into her account and distribute it according to the terms of the trust.

If there is no account, send it back to state and advise them to make it out to her estate.
