Eight months ago I got a new credit card and put it in my safe to use later on a trip. Before I could use it,someone fraudulantly charged $3100 to my account.I contacted the credit card company. They sent me fraud papers that I filled out and sent back. I then received a statement showing that they removed the $3100 charge and a balance of 0. About a month or two later I received a statement showing a credit of $3100 instead.I waited about four months to see if they would catch their mistake, but they didn't. So, I called them and told them of the mistake. They told me not to worry about it,that it would be taken care of. But, about 10 days ago I received a check for $3100 and a note saying that this is a refund of a credit I had. I put it in my savings account for now. I would like to know what my legal rights are with the money since it was their mistake,I called to correct the mistake, they had over six months to correct the mistake, and they still sent me the check? Is the check legally mine now? Can I get in trouble for keeping it? and what are my options if they do catch their mistake?
