Child abuse, Court order

Jurisdiction
Texas
i don't have custody of my daughters who are 5 & 6. My 5 yr old was a premiee, she is developmentally behind she does not talk but understands everything. She's more like a 3yr old. I lost custody in 2011 while going through a bad depression, in 2013 the divorce was finalized in mediation. I have standard visitation and every Thursday from 4-7.
My ex had been denying me visitation in October only on Thursdays this month he denied me visitation too. I saw my girls November 6-8th. I filed for contempt, he got served this Tuesday December 1st. He send me an angry text but I did not replied.
On Thursday I picked up my girls at 4pm after an hour and a half at the trampoline park I took my youngest to the bathroom noticed hand print bruises on her bottom and back thighs. I took her to the closest PD n made a report. The officer called CPS. On Friday CPS called me that they were at their school and wanted me to go by asap. I headed there and the CPS lady asked me to take the children to the hospital and have my youngest evaluated. Their dad claimed that she felt down the stairs and that's why she got the bruises. The doctor at the hospital said those bruises where not from a stair case, someone beat her up.
CPS says "well we can't do anything right now (over the weekend) because she's with you in a safe place. If you decide to return your children on Sunday to their dad as the court order says then we can keep investigating but the decision is up to you".

My question; if I don't return them I know I'm violating my court order, if I do I am taking my kids to an unsafe environment. What can I do legally? I honestly do not have the money to take him to court, even if I do that would take days or weeks.
If I violate my court order would I get punished? Even though I'm trying to protect my child?
What do y'all think?

CPS can not authorize you to violate a court order. Unless the child's life is in danger, I would not go that route. When you asked the children what happened, what did they say? Surely even a 6 year old can tell you if she got a spanking from dad (or someone else) or fell down the stairs. You can file an emergency petition with the courts for temporary custody if you like. It will be up to a judge whether or not to grant it.
