Hello,

Someone I know said she was in a long distance relationship with a guy in Australia. She said they engaged in webcam sex starting when she was 17 and he was 19. Is that illegal? Is it child pornography or is it different since it was consensual, within a relationship, and not distributed to anyone else? She turned 18 during their relationship, so if this is illegal, is it her right to press charges against him should she chose to, or do her parents still hold this right? Could she be arrested for distributing images to him? For how long after the "crime" can charges be pressed?

Thanks

What is any of this to you? I don't know the law in Australia but I'm guessing that if her father found out, he might be interested in pressing charges if he didn't like the boyfriend. Given the close proximity of the ages, I'm not quite sure what the perspective is in Australia which might be very different than the US. With regard to the webcam, I'm not sure what "webcam sex" is although I'm assuming that it involves the transmission of sexually explicit material. Unless someone is interested in bring this matter to an authority and there is evidence, I'm guessing the prosecutors in Australia will have their calendars filled.
