My husband has a 14 year old daughter who lives in Florida. She was originally from Connecticut, but they moved to Florida 2 years ago. His daughters mom never closed the case in Connecticut. The day after she moved to Florida, she immediately went to support and called my husband for his information.
Without my husbands knowledge, connecticut has kept charging him support. They took almost $4,000 of our taxes. We didnt know who took our money until we got a letter from connecticut saying they took his money. We actually thought it was florida or PA support who took it because he shouldnt have any case open in connecticut. What makes me upset even more is that, He makes his payments every week, and owes no arrears. We have four children, and on top of his payments, they also forced another $50 a week out of his check for medical.
They took our money 10 weeks ago, they said they closed the case and they would reimburse and we are still waiting. Is it legal to have 2 child support cases open in 2 different states? What can my husband do to get our money back? Shes also planning on moving back to Connecticut, which will put him in this situation again. Is there any law against it so it doesnt happen again? My husband is a very good father to his daughter. While shes here with us in Pennsylvania, her mom is still collecting his support. Its very unfair and I want to know what legal rights he has and who should he file a complaint with. Who protects a father when they are making their payments, owe no arrears, and child support takes their money?
