I drive a 1975 Datsun 280Z stock engine, the vehicle is smog exempt, and non of the vacuum lines are hooked up on the manifold. Nothing illegal about the car, if anything pushes like 210hp at most. Anyways was out driving a few nights before stopped at a red light. Another guy pulls up next to me in some Toyota, truthfully we never made eye contact with each other. The light turns green and we both take off, the speed limit is only 35mph, we were both over. We passed a side street were the officer was rolling up from. We came to the next light and both had stopped next to each other, then a few seconds later the officer rolls around the through the left turn lane and pulls in front of our vehicles. Had us pull into a nearby parking lot he questioned both of us. He wrote me up under speed 70+.He cited me for a 23109a and impounded my vehicle for 30 days. Now the questions he asked me was if I knew how fast I was going, I told him I was watching the road, and that I wasn't going any faster than 75mph. then he asked if I was racing the other vehicle, I told the officer, no, that I was at a stop light and he pulled up, we didn't even look at each other to insinuate a race. The light turned green and I proceeded to go. The thing is, the police officer never saw us leave the stoplight, he didn't catch our speed on radar gun either. Isn't the Law based on Facts, not The Opinions? I'm 21 my birthday is April 4, my court date is on April 26, he wrote I was 22 years old, the night I got the ticket. Will this inaccuracy have any affect on the court date. My D.M.V record isn't the best but isn't the worst either. Im going to try to get an early release on the vehicle tomorrow, based on what the story is, does anybody think I have a chance on getting that release and fighting that ticket in court?
