Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Civil Demand and any kind of Background Check

I was caught switching price tags in a Goodwill store . The store security, called me to a room, made me sign trespassing papers saying I won't be coming back to the store for 2 years and also said I would receive a Civil Fine Notice from their lawyer and handed me a note which says I have been apprehended for Civil Theft. No police was called and he clearly told that this is not criminal but civil charges. He also told me that it wont appear in background checks and if I pay the fine, I might be welcomed back to the store after 1 year.

If I pay the amount as per the Civil Demand Letter will this record show up on any kind of background check? Background checks by employers ? Real-estate?
I am not into retail. So, I don't worry about my record being there in their retail theft database as I will probably never apply for a position in retail.

No the only place this "might" show up is a retail theft database which you have no concern over. Pay the Civil Demand and this should be over.

Shrinkmaster gave you the straight scoop, so I have a question for you, OP.

You seem like a bright person.
You are gainfully employed.

You likely have earned a degree of some sort, so what on earth would possess you to engage in such shenanigans?

I'm sure you would be offended if someone tried the old SWITCHEROO in your store, or the store of a loved one.

Why, OP, why?

Since no police were called & if you pay the civil demand, this should be over with & should not show up on a background check (except possibly a retail theft data base which doesn't seem to concern you).
