My question involves criminal law for the state of: Washington

So I got caught shopping at urban outfitters with $24 dollars wallet, I am a minor and first offense. Can they charge me with a civil demand. Police were involved because I was a little uncooperative but I also didnt sign anything.

I forgot to mention that the wallet was recovered no damage at all. I have not recieved a civil demand yet and I was not told by the cops that I wasnt going to recieve any charges.

But by reading all of these other civil demand threads I wanted to know if they have the right to still charge me with a civil demand considering, I didnt sign anything, im a minor, and its a first offense.

Re: Civil Demands at Store name

Yes they have the right to seek Civil Demand in accordance with your state's laws on subject. If you are a minor that letter of Civil Demand will go to your parents and the consequences for not paying (if not paid) will fall on them (your parents) mostly

what will happen since the police were involved.
all they did was read me my rights then verified for the store my adress and stuff. then let me go.

Re: Civil Demands at Store name

My guess is possibly you will get a court date if they involved the police and were uncooperative.

As for the Civil Demand it will be on your parents, if you or they don't decide to pay, expect court, and leagal fees possibly into the thousnads.
