Good Afternoon Counselor,
I have a civil judgment against me for the amount of $2000.00 as of 2/28/07, plus 6% interest and court cost. It took me 18 months to pay off the $2000.00. According to the court documents the court cost total $75.00, which I understand....My question how is the 6% interest calculated? One person is telling me 2/28/07 to 2/28/08 tallies; $120.00 ---From 2/28/08 to 8/28/08 tallies $60.00...Grand total of $180.00 Or is it calculated like interest on a credit card what the balance is for that month and calculate the interest per month for 18 months. 2007 = $78.24, 2008 = $13.68 Making a grand total of $91.92, which one is correct.
Also nothing is mentioned in the court records in regards to a transcript but the opposing attorney is sending me a bill of $154.40 for this too.....I'm I liable to pay that, when it isn't in the disposition of the case records?
Thank you for your time and attention in this matter. Corky1961

Court costs are not necessarily attorneys fees and are filing fees and the like. Why don't you tell the attorney that, per the judgment, you're not responsible to pay his bill? Regarding the interest, I don't know what state you are in. From my experience interest was usually compounded annually unless you're dealing with instruments or other reasons that should require different treatment. If what you paid wasn't sufficient, ask the plaintiff's attorney to justify.
