I got caught shoplifting for 20$ from [Store] and went through all of the stuff, police were called court date is this evening, I couldn't sleep because of this actually. Carrying on from where I left off... I was wondering, why say Not Guilty? This is lieing to the judge because I openly admitted that I stole those items. If I ask for a public defender, what do I ask him? What will he say? My last and final question will be, how much will the total fines cost...?

Thank you, and I promise I've already turned down two of my friends who said that I should shoplift with them at the mall, they were put in jail for the night. So I'm on my way back to normal again.

Pleading Not Guilty is a chance for you to get legal representation and explain your part of the story. By pleading guilty, you throw yourself at the mercy of the court. Yes, technically you are guilty, but if your lawyer can show the judge you are remorseful and have taken steps (such as enrolling in the NASP program) the judge may be more lenient on you than if you are a hardass.

Contact the admin, they have information for the NASP program which has helped alot of shoplifters, even many on this site!!!

It sounds like you are making the right steps and putting this incident behind you.

#1 Breathe
#2 Get a lawyer - either public or private
#3 Steal no more
#4 Contact the admin for information about the NASP

A first offense shoplift normally carries a fine under $500.00 this of course does not include Civil Demand and any classes or programs court orders you to take, if they do.
