Hello
I own a lawn care business and 3 days ago a client of mine claims that I mowed over two of his sprinkler heads damaging them. He could not show me which ones he thinks I damaged, he can only tell me that his fix it man says I broke two. The man says for one of the sprinkler heads it costs $120 to replace the head for parts only, no labor. I thought that was outrageous so I called the Orbit company headquarters who manufactures the head to get a list price. The head retails for $15.75. I asked to see the invoice that he was charged for from the guy replacing the heads. He could not produce an invoice because he said he paid the guy cash and he tore up the invoice. I talked to some people locally and they said that as long as i am not mowing while the sprinkler system is running, non retracting sprinkler heads are not a known obstacle i need to be responsible for as they can be hidden in the grass. Also, i was told that i need to be informed of all damages that someone claims i may have caused to their property before they are repaired to replace them myself or get my own person to fix damages. Am i correct in thinking that i am not fully responsible for replacing these damaged sprinkler heads? This is the first time in my 7 years of mowing someone has claimed that i damaged any sprinkler heads.
Thanks for your time.
Mike
