I am the primary owner of a truck with an ex-boyfriend. I live in PA and he moved to CO last year, with the truck. The truck still has PA plates and I think he still has a PA license. In the beginning he would give me money for the truck payments (the loan still has about 3 years left) and then April of this year he paid the bank directly. I recently found out that he didn't pay the July payment. I found out right before the August payment was due. My family helped me out and paid the two months so that my credit wouldn't be affected since I own the truck.
I would like to remove my name from the title. I was told by the bank that he would need to refinance in his name alone in order to remove me from the title but his credit is so bad he can't get approved. I'm not sure what to do now except try to refinance the truck in my name only and then trade in the truck with my current vehicle and have the truck loan added to my "new" vehicle loan.
The problem is - I know he won't sign the title over to me.
Do I have any rights as the primary owner to refinance the truck in my name only in order to remove him from the title?
I don't even know what kind of lawyer to speak to about this situation so if anyone can tell me a direction to turn that would be wonderful.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
