Collecting funds from garnished bank account

My jurisdiction is: Miami Dade County Florida

Our non profit organization is owed $1200 by a debtor. He wrote us a check for the amount and his bank refuses to pay. The debtor has told us that his bank account is under garnishment. We still hold the check in our possession. We do not know if this garnishment is Federal, related to IRS non payment, child support or Mortgage payment. How do we go about collecting our money. We are located in Miami Dade county Florida. thanks for your help.

Why is the bank refusing to pay? Garnishment does not mean that the entire account is frozen.

Thanks for yr reply I dont know. They keep giving me a standard script saying that there is nothing that they can do with the check. I used the 800 banking system to determine that there is not enough money in the account to pay the check . Any Idea on how I may proceed from here? Will we also have to garnish his wages?
