A collection agency keeps calling me to settle a debt that my ex-wife assumed after our divorce. The account used my S.S. # when we opened the account several years before our divorce. My ex-wife said that she had the account changed to her name only, after the divorce. Only she was recieving the statements each month, so I was not aware that the account was still open, and using my Social Security number. A few years after our divorce, my ex-wife filed for bankruptcy, so the collection agency cannot contact her. The collection agency keeps listing my credit as bad. How can I remove this from my record, without having to pay the debt that is owed?

If the contract they have is your signature then you will have to pay it--- Apparently the ex never paid this loan off and put it in her name. The loan contract will supersede any civil divorce decree.
