I received a couple of calls from collection agency in reguards to a Discover Card that originaly was a joint account with my x-husband and I. The collector had said that it was for the amount of over 2500.00 and that they had been trying to contact me for years.
They also said that it was in my name only ,and I disputed that because I was married at the time and it was in both of our names , and again I was told differently.
I called the Discover Card info. center and asked about the old account and they told me that it was a joint account and the amount of the card was around 1200.00 and they had sold my account , and it was the same as the collection agency , which had jumped from the 1200.00 to over 2500.00.
I then received a letter in the mail wanting payment from the collection agency , I have not sent them a reply or called them and I have less than 20 days left , to decide what to do.
I have no job and little to no money in the bank , and married my present husband 13 yrs.
and I am not on his bank accounts and it is not his credit card bill.
Lousiana is a comunity property state and I feel that my X husband works and lives in La. and he should be half if not all the one to pay this account.
What is the solution to this problem and is there a limitation to collections ?
