I am a medical biller and recently the provider I bill for received a letter from one of the healthcare companies saying that they had made an error in the amount of money they had reimbursed a particular claim, and were asking that he overpaid amount be refunded. At the time the healthcare company paid the reimbursement, the doctor thought the reimbursement was too much, and as the biller, I called the company to verify the amount was correct. The healthcare company took 3 weeks to review the claim and confirmed that the amount was correct, and that the doctor could now cash the check. Three months later, the healthcare company are saying they made a mistake and want their money back. Surely, this is their error and they should just accept it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I completely agree. You asked them to certify it, they certified it, so they bought it. Return their letter and tell them they are out the money. I would worry they won't pay you next time.
